Uniden UH041P
This is the new replacement for the 040, it is a smaller 40ch radio with all the features of the UHX042 radio but in a smaller case and a user selectable RF output of 0.3 or 1 watt. This higher power is claimed to boost the range from 3 Kms to 4 Kms. The radio has channel scanning , ctcss, and NiMH battery pack that is supposed to give 30 hrs of continuous use with a 5% transmit time 5% receive and the rest of the time on standby . There is a single 2.5mm stereo external headset socket which will enable the radio to run with the motorcycle headsets, but the radio must be operated in VOX mode to enable this ( seems the radio cannot be bought to transmit by completing the external electret mic circuit as can the 040/042/037 ) This is not the optimal way to connect the motorcycle headset into the radio but is the only way you can use it with the uh041. ( or a plug in speaker microphone with the correct plug connections , 2.5mm stereo plug with the sleeve earth, ring microphone and tip speaker.) This does not mean you can run these M/C headsets in Vox with the 041. ( though with a slight modification to the external PTT cable, you could but at your own peril! you must short circuit it, ask me about this ) . The radio can be purchased singly or in the deluxe pack consisting of two radios , two NiMH rechargeable battery packs, a dual radio charging base and its 9v power supply. If you need to however, the radio can be run on 4 standard non rechargeable AAA alkaline cells . The radios are not waterproof . There is not a volume control off on switch as the 040/041/037 but a push button keypad , also used for channel changing. This may be a little awkward with M/C gloves on . Various other features vox, ctcss etc are obtained by key press sequences .
but on the whole not a bad little radio and having rechargeable cells is an
added advantage
Note : all the models numerically greater than 041 use this same single headset plug ( 2.5mm stereo ) have the external PTT function so you do not have to run them in VOX mode. They will do full "Push- To -Talk " off the external handle bar mounted PTT button
(Headset only) PRICE NZ$100.00 inc gst Free postage, with walkman adapter NZ$125.00
